External Services

LocalizeAI connects to the Google Translate API to translate WordPress content into the target languages selected by the site administrator. The plugin uses this external API because automatic machine translation requires a translation provider to process the source text and return translated text.

Service: Google Translate API / Google Cloud Translation API

Data sent: When a translation is requested, the plugin sends the text that needs translation to Google. This may include the post or page title, post content, excerpt, URL slug, selected translatable post meta such as SEO titles and descriptions, custom translatable meta values, and extracted Elementor text when Elementor content is present. The request also includes the source language, target language, and the site’s configured Google API key.

When data is sent: Data is sent only when an administrator requests translation or when a queued background translation job runs for selected content and target languages. Translation requests are not sent during normal front-end page views.

Why the API is used: Google Translate API returns translated text that LocalizeAI saves back into the WordPress database as translated WordPress content.
